If you are paying ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 for a short introductory course, the financial risk is relatively low. It can help you understand whether AI is something you actually want to study.
If you are considering a programme costing ₹1 lakh, ₹2 lakh or more, you should evaluate it much more carefully.
Do not judge the programme only by the institute's name. Look at the curriculum, teaching quality, project work, mentor support, assessments, duration and career relevance.

If you are a working professional, you should look for a programme that fits your schedule and connects AI with your existing industry experience.
You do not always need a dedicated Artificial Intelligence degree to start learning AI.
The requirement depends on the programme and the type of career you want. Beginner courses can have very broad entry requirements, while advanced postgraduate programmes can require a relevant bachelor's or master's degree.
For example, IIT Madras' web-enabled AI programmes have specific academic and work-experience requirements, while its shorter courses have different entry structures.
If you are from computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics or another quantitative background, you may already have some useful foundations.
If you come from a non-technical background, you can still learn AI, but you may need to spend more time developing programming and mathematics skills.
This is the part I would focus on most if your goal is employment.
Do not wait until your course is finished before starting projects.

Choose based on what you want to achieve.
If you are a school or college student, start by building your programming and mathematics foundation. If you are a graduate, look for a programme that takes you from fundamentals to practical AI applications. If you are already working, think about how Artificial Intelligence can solve problems in your existing industry.
And before spending a large amount of money, ask one simple question:
What will I be able to build after completing this course?
That question can save you from choosing a programme based only on its marketing.
