This is the exact conversation I have at least three times a week.
A student messages me on LinkedIn after a Fueler event and says, "Riten, I just finished 12th standard. My parents want me to do a regular BBA or BCom. But I want to be a marketer or a creator. Should I go to a regular college or do something like LIT School?"
I understand the pressure. I have been there. And I want to give you the most honest answer I can.
I run Fueler, a platform where companies hire creative professionals based on real work, not just degrees. So I have a very clear view of what actually gets people hired in 2026. And I have studied LIT School closely because their model is one of the most interesting things happening in Indian education right now.
Here is my honest breakdown of LIT School vs college, so you can make the right call for yourself.
Let me start with the most important question.
When you go to a regular college for a BBA or BCom, what are you actually buying?
You are buying three years of lectures, assignments based on textbooks, exams you study for and forget, and at the end, a degree certificate with the college's name on it. If the college is well-known, the name helps you get interviews. If the college is average, you are mostly on your own to build credibility.
When you go to LIT School, what are you actually buying?
You are buying real experience, built in real time. Students at LIT School work on 30 to 70 real brand challenges during their time there. They work with companies like Philips, Rapido, Bumble, Meesho, Zepto, and Think School. They present to real industry judges. Every project goes into a public portfolio on the LIT platform.
So the short version is this: regular college gives you a certificate. LIT School gives you proof of work.
Now let's go deeper.
Regular College: You sit in a classroom. A professor explains a concept. You take notes. Before exams, you study those notes. After exams, you mostly forget them. Some good colleges have case studies and internships, but these are usually optional and underdeveloped.
LIT School: From your very first week, you are working on real briefs. A company gives you an actual problem. You are expected to come up with a solution, build it, and present it. Mentors guide you, but they do not do the work for you.
LIT School calls this the Learn, Innovate, Transform method. And it mirrors what actually happens inside companies every single day.
If you are the kind of person who learns by doing, LIT School will suit you much better. If you prefer structured lectures and clear syllabi, a regular college might feel more comfortable.
This is where a lot of people get nervous. And it is a fair concern.
A regular college BBA or BCom gives you a degree that is widely recognised. Banks, government jobs, further studies, and most corporate HR departments understand it.
LIT School's shorter programs like Creator Marketer (12+3 months) and Creator+ (10+2 months) offer portfolio-backed certifications. These are not traditional degrees.
However, LIT School's longer programs, the CreatorPreneur and Next Gen Business (both 24+6+6 months), are run in partnership with Medhavi Skills University and include a UGC-recognised BBA degree. So if you need a formal degree, you can still get one from LIT School through these tracks.
Here is my honest take on the degree question: in most creative and marketing careers, the degree matters far less than you think. I have seen companies on Fueler pass over candidates with great degrees and hire people with great portfolios every single day.
But if you are planning to do a master's degree later, pursue government jobs, or work in sectors that have strict qualification requirements, a recognised degree still matters. Plan accordingly.
If you are planning to make a career in marketing, check this LIT School can be a good option for your marketing career.
Regular College: Most professors are academics. They studied, got their degrees, and then started teaching. Many have not worked inside a startup or an agency in years, if ever. The syllabus they teach is often 5 to 10 years behind what the industry actually needs.
LIT School: LIT School's mentors are called EPIC Masters. They are all active practitioners. Founders, content creators, performance marketers, filmmakers, AI builders, and growth strategists. Their public mentor list includes Nitish Mathur, co-author of The Growth Hacking Book and Founder of 3CANS. Ashutosh Pratap Singh, a Tech and AI content creator running his own media company. Rishabh Agarwal, who is building an AI Healthtech startup.
When a mentor at LIT School teaches you campaign strategy, they ran a campaign last week. That difference is huge.
Let me put some numbers on the table.
LIT School publicly reports a 93% placement rate. They have 500+ industry partners and have placed students at companies like Angel One, WLDD, Binge Labs, Discover Dollar, and NotFunny. They also offer lifelong placement assistance.
Regular colleges vary enormously on this. Top colleges have strong placement cells. Average colleges often leave students to figure it out themselves.
But here is something I want you to think about.
A placement from a regular college often means a company came to campus, interviewed 20 students, and picked 2. You got a job, but you may not have chosen it based on your actual skills or interests.
A placement from LIT School means a company saw your portfolio, liked what you built, and wanted you specifically for what you can do. You can also read this on how LIT School can help you in placements without degrees.
That is a very different kind of career start.
Regular College: A decent private college in India costs roughly 3 to 5 Lakhs per year. For a 3-year BBA, that is 9 to 15 Lakhs total. Add living costs if you are away from home, and the number goes higher.
LIT School: Based on publicly available information, LIT School programs are priced in the range of 6 to 7 Lakhs, depending on the track. LIT School currently operates only in Bengaluru, offline, and does not offer hostel facilities, so you will need to account for accommodation separately if you are relocating.
On pure numbers, the cost comparison is close. The question is what you get for that cost.
Here is my honest framework. Ask yourself these three questions.
One: What kind of career do you want? If you want to work in marketing, content creation, growth, or start a creator-led business, LIT School gives you a direct path. If you want to work in finance, law, government, or traditional corporate management, a regular degree is still the safer bet.
Two: How do you learn best? If you learn by doing real things and getting feedback, LIT School will accelerate you fast. If you need structure, lectures, and clear academic milestones, a regular college will feel more natural.
Three: How much does the degree certificate matter for your specific goal? If you need a recognised degree for future studies or specific sectors, look at LIT School's longer 3-year programs that include the BBA through Medhavi Skills University. If a portfolio and skills matter more than a certificate for your career, the shorter LIT programs may be all you need.
At Fueler, I see how companies actually hire people. And I can tell you that in 2026, for creative and marketing roles, proof of work beats a certificate every single time.
LIT School builds proof. A regular college builds credentials.
Both have value. But if you are reading this because you want a career in marketing, content, or the creator economy, and you are willing to work hard and learn by doing, LIT School is a genuinely strong option that I would not dismiss.
The next batch at LIT School starts on 20th April 2026. If you want to explore it, go to litschool.in and reach out.
Whatever you decide, choose based on where you want to go. Not just what feels safe.
1. Is LIT School better than a regular college for a marketing career in 2026?
For a career specifically in digital marketing, content creation, or the creator economy, LIT School offers a more practical and faster path. You build a real portfolio working with actual brands. Regular colleges are better if you need a widely recognised degree for further studies or sectors that require formal qualifications.
2. Does LIT School give a valid degree or just a certificate?
LIT School's shorter programs offer portfolio-backed certifications. The longer programs, CreatorPreneur and Next Gen Business (24+6+6 months each), are offered in partnership with Medhavi Skills University and include a UGC-recognised BBA degree. So a valid degree is available, depending on the program you choose.
3. What is the fee difference between LIT School and a regular college?
Based on publicly available data, LIT School programs cost approximately 6 to 7 Lakhs depending on the track. A private college BBA typically costs 9 to 15 Lakhs over three years including tuition. The total cost is similar, but LIT School delivers hands-on experience and a portfolio rather than just academic credits.
4. Can a student with no prior experience join LIT School after 12th standard?
Yes. LIT School is designed for beginners. You do not need prior marketing or content creation experience. The program is built to take you from zero to job-ready through real brand challenges and mentor guidance.
5. What careers can you get after LIT School compared to a regular BBA?
LIT School graduates have landed roles in content strategy, performance marketing, digital marketing, founder office roles, and content creation at companies like Angel One, WLDD, Binge Labs, and Discover Dollar. A regular BBA typically prepares students for broader corporate roles in sales, operations, HR, or marketing. LIT School's outcomes are more focused and more specialised in the creator and digital marketing space.
