Mumbai has one of India's most active creative industries. The city brings together advertising agencies, branding studios, digital agencies, design consultancies, social media companies, production teams, and integrated marketing agencies. For someone starting or growing a creative career, this means there are many different paths beyond simply applying for a graphic designer or copywriter position.
You can build a career in advertising, branding, UI/UX, social media, content, video, creative strategy, account management, production, performance marketing, or technology. The right agency depends on the type of work you want to become known for.
I’m Riten, founder of Fueler, a skills-first portfolio platform building the career infrastructure for 100 million creative professionals. Fueler connects talented individuals with companies through assignments, portfolios, and projects, not just resumes or CVs. Think of it as Dribbble/Behance for work samples combined with AngelList for hiring infrastructure.
If you are searching for creative agencies in Mumbai, do not apply to every agency with the same resume. First understand the agency's work, the roles it hires for, and whether your portfolio matches the kind of creative problems it solves.
I have also put together a separate directory of 25 design agencies in Mumbai, which is useful if your primary interest is UI/UX, product design, branding, packaging, or visual design.
In this guide, I have listed 25 creative agencies and creative networks that job seekers can explore in 2026. This is not a ranking. The goal is to help you understand what each agency is known for, which roles may fit you, and how to approach your application.
A creative agency is not made up only of designers and copywriters. Modern agencies bring together creative, strategy, technology, media, production, and client-facing teams.
Depending on the agency, you can find roles such as:
This is why you should decide what type of creative career you want before applying.
If you enjoy ideas and storytelling, advertising and copywriting may suit you. If you like visual systems, branding and graphic design may be better. If you enjoy technology and user experience, UI/UX or creative technology could be a better path.

The best agency depends on the career you want to build.
The important thing is to apply based on the work you want to do. Do not choose an agency only because it is famous.
Before sending your application, spend some time studying the agency.
Look at its recent work and ask whether you would enjoy creating similar work. Then look at the job description and identify the skills the agency actually wants. A "designer" role can mean very different things across agencies.
You should also understand the clients you may work with. An agency working mainly with FMCG brands can give you a very different experience from a digital product studio.
Finally, look at whether the agency will allow you to build depth in your chosen skill. If you want to become a product designer, a role that mainly involves making social media posts may not move you toward your long-term goal.
The biggest mistake job seekers make is using the same application for every agency.
Instead, create a shortlist of agencies that match your career direction. Then customise your portfolio for that group.
For example, if you are applying to advertising agencies, put campaign work first. If you are applying to a UI/UX agency, put case studies first. If you are applying for a social media role, show platform-specific campaigns and explain the thinking behind them.
Your application should make the hiring manager think:
"This person understands the kind of work we do."
That is much stronger than simply saying that you are passionate about creativity.
Your portfolio is often more important than your resume for creative roles.
A resume can tell an agency that you know Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro or After Effects. It cannot show whether you can actually solve a creative problem.
Your portfolio can.
For every strong project, explain the problem, your role, your process and the final outcome. If you have measurable results, include them.
Fueler's step-by-step guide to building a design portfolio covers this process in detail.
You can also learn how designers can build proof of work on Fueler, especially if you want your portfolio to communicate your process and contribution rather than simply display finished images.
You do not need to wait for a client to give you your first opportunity.
Create self-initiated projects.
A copywriter can create a campaign for an imaginary brand. A designer can redesign an existing user flow as a concept project. A video editor can create a spec advertisement. A social media professional can build a complete content campaign.
The important thing is to clearly label self-initiated work as self-initiated.
The purpose is to demonstrate your thinking and execution.
Fueler's proof-of-work portfolio guide recommends showing real projects, assignments and outcomes so that hiring teams can evaluate what you have actually done.
Assignments are common in creative hiring because they allow agencies to evaluate how candidates think.
A copywriter may receive a campaign brief. A designer may be asked to create a concept. A social media candidate may be asked to develop a content plan. A video editor may receive raw footage and a brief.
Do not treat the assignment as something separate from your portfolio.
Treat it as another opportunity to demonstrate how you work.
If the assignment is unpaid, make sure the scope is reasonable and that you are comfortable with the arrangement. For substantial commercial work, candidates should understand how their work will be used.
You do not need to have worked at a famous agency to stand out.
You need evidence that you can do the work.
Build three to five strong projects instead of uploading everything you have ever created. Explain your thinking. Show iterations when they are useful. Include results where available.
For example, instead of writing:
"Designed social media creatives for a brand."
Explain what you were trying to achieve, what audience you were targeting, what creative direction you selected, what you produced and what happened afterward.
That turns a design sample into a case study.
That is the difference between a portfolio that displays work and a portfolio that proves ability.
If you are actively looking for a creative agency job in Mumbai, use a structured process rather than applying randomly.
Do not judge the process only by the number of applications you send. Look at whether your portfolio is improving, whether your applications are getting responses and whether you are reaching agencies that actually match your career goals.
Mumbai has a huge creative ecosystem, but that does not mean every creative agency will be right for you.
The best agency is the one where the work matches the career you want to build.
If you want to become an advertising creative, focus on campaign-led agencies. If you want to become a brand designer, explore branding and design consultancies. If you want to work in UI/UX, target product and digital design studios. If social media is your strength, look at digital-first creative agencies.
And wherever you apply, remember one thing.
Do not only tell agencies that you are good. Show them.
That is why I believe so strongly in proof of work at Fueler. A resume tells someone what you have done. A portfolio lets them see it.
Your first creative job may not come from having the perfect degree or the longest resume. It may come from the one project in your portfolio that makes a hiring manager stop and think, "This person understands the work."
There is no single best agency for everyone. Ogilvy, Leo Burnett, Dentsu Creative, Schbang, Social Panga, MullenLowe Lintas, L&K Saatchi & Saatchi, Elephant Design, Think Design and Lollypop are among the agencies and creative organisations worth researching. Your choice should depend on whether you want advertising, branding, digital, social media, UI/UX, strategy or another creative discipline.
Creative agencies hire for many roles, including copywriter, graphic designer, UI/UX designer, art director, social media manager, content strategist, brand strategist, account executive, client servicing executive, video editor, motion designer, creative producer, developer, performance marketer and PR professional.
Yes, although competition can be high. Freshers can improve their chances by building a strong portfolio, creating self-initiated projects, completing relevant assignments and applying specifically to agencies whose work matches their skills. A strong proof-of-work portfolio can help compensate for limited professional experience.
Include three to five strong projects that match the role you want. Explain the problem, your contribution, your creative or strategic process and the final outcome. Copywriters should show campaigns and writing, designers should show relevant case studies, and video professionals should show their strongest edits, films or motion work.
Start with the agency's official careers page and verified job listings. Research the agency's work before applying and customise your portfolio for the role. You can also use professional networking to connect with relevant employees, but your outreach should be short and specific. Most importantly, make your portfolio easy to review because creative hiring is heavily influenced by the quality and relevance of your actual work.
