Murder Your Darlings 🌹
In writing, this is a concept or a method/approach that means cutting or removing elements that are precious to you, but don’t serve the story. In this video, I explore my own journey of learning to let go and make tough creative choices.
In writing, ‘darlings’ refers to those precious scenes, characters, or lines that we love but don’t serve the story.
But this is not a writing video.
Or a video about ‘darlings’.
This is a video about mindset and attitude.
This is a video about being open to change.
Changing our behaviours.
Thought processes.
Attitude.
Letting go of stubbornness.
Letting go of wanting to be in control all the time.
And that has significantly helped me.
I used to write a script just once and close it off because once was good enough and I was rigid in terms of changes or going back.
Now, after letting go of that stubbornness and being more open to change, I go back multiple times because I realised the better scripts come from the 3rd or 4th revision.
And that’s why I believe being open to change and adapting to it can really make you stand pit and be excellent at your craft!
